Driving Question:
How can you convince others to help solve a serious problem in the real world?
Summary:
Students will explore expository writing, research, persuasive writing, and persuasive speaking by researching a global issue from the viewpoint of career/field that would work towards solving the problem. Students will choose one of four issues to research as discussed in the entry event. During their research, they will explore exactly what the issue is, careers/fields of study that would play a role in solving the problem, and possible solutions. They will also make contact with professionals from their chosen career/field of study as a reference in developing their solution. Students will then develop a solution to their problem/issue based on a career/field of study (i.e. developing a solution/finding a cure for cancer from the perspective of a lab researcher). Students will present their possible solution in a panel discussion at a conference of real world issues, at which they will take on the role of an expert in their field.
